How It Works

Geometrical room acoustics models enclosed sound fields by tracing directional sound rays propagating through space and reflecting specularly from enclosing walls. Each boundary impact attenuates the acoustic ray energy in proportion to the boundary's frequency-dependent absorption coefficient (α). The accumulation of numerous overlapping reflections transitions from distinct early reflections into diffuse late reverberation, quantified by Sabine's RT60 formula.
