How It Works

Agricultural greenhouses optimize horticultural microclimates by exploiting the spectral transmission characteristics of glass or specialized polymer cladding. Cladding materials exhibit high transmittance for incident shortwave solar radiation (0.3 to 2.5 μm) while remaining largely opaque to longwave infrared thermal radiation (>5 μm) emitted by the warm internal plant canopy and soil, trapping heat.
