Biomechanical Impedance & Exoskeleton Control

Biomedical Engineering

How It Works

Rehabilitation robotics and active orthoses utilize mechanical impedance control to regulate interactive human-robot contact forces. Rather than commanding inflexible joint trajectories, the control law enforces an equivalent target mass-spring-damper relationship between limb deviation and interface force, ensuring compliant assistance and natural user interaction.

Governing Equation
M_d · (ẍ - ẍ_d) + B_d · (ẋ - ẋ_d) + K_d · (x - x_d) = F_interaction
