How It Works

In a fluidized bed reactor, an upward stream of fluid passes through a granular catalyst bed at a superficial velocity exceeding the minimum fluidization velocity (u_mf). When upward hydrodynamic drag equals the net gravitational weight of the solid particles, the bed expands into a bubbling fluid-like state, ensuring rapid mass and heat transfer and isothermal bed temperature control.
