How It Works

Radical chain-growth polymerization synthesizes high-molecular-weight polymers through three consecutive kinetic steps: initiation, propagation, and termination. Free radicals generated by initiator dissociation attack monomer double bonds, forming active chain carriers. These active chains rapidly propagate by consecutively adding hundreds of monomer units until bimolecular radical combination or disproportionation terminates chain growth.
