How It Works

Euler-Bernoulli beam theory governs the transverse deflection and internal stress distribution of an elastic beam subjected to lateral loads. Under a centered transverse point load, compressive normal stresses develop along the upper fibers while tensile stresses govern the lower fibers, separated by the neutral axis. The curvature remains directly proportional to the internal bending moment and inversely proportional to the flexural rigidity EI.
