How It Works

Slender structural columns subjected to axial compression experience elastic bifurcation buckling when the applied force reaches the critical Euler load. At this bifurcation threshold, the column transitions from a purely axial compressive state into a sinusoidal transverse lateral deflection profile. The critical load depends strictly on modulus of elasticity, moment of inertia, and unsupported length.
