How It Works

Trigonometric leveling using optical or digital theodolites calculates elevation differences across rolling topography by sighting a graduated rod with precise vertical angle measurement. The elevation difference ΔH is computed from the measured slope distance S and vertical angle α, applying corrections for instrument height, target height, Earth curvature, and atmospheric refraction.
