How It Works

Ampère's Circuital Law relates the magnetic field circulating around a closed spatial contour to the total electric current passing through any surface bounded by that contour. In steady-state magnetostatics, the line integral of the tangential magnetic field vector along a closed path is directly proportional to the enclosed conduction current. The direction of the magnetic field follows the standard right-hand rule relative to the direction of current flow.
