How It Works

Reliability engineering models component hazard and failure rates over operating life using the Weibull probability distribution. The classic bathtub curve integrates three distinct failure epochs: infant mortality with decreasing failure rate (shape parameter β < 1), useful life with constant random failure rate (β = 1), and age-related wear-out with increasing failure rate (β > 1).
