How It Works

A binary eutectic phase diagram maps phase equilibria between two mutually soluble liquid elements that are partially or completely immiscible in the solid state. At the invariant eutectic point (E), the homogeneous liquid phase simultaneously transforms into two distinct solid phases (α and β) upon cooling at a single invariant temperature and composition.
