How It Works

Creep is the time-dependent plastic deformation of materials subjected to constant mechanical stress at elevated homologous temperatures (T > 0.4 T_m). Under sustained tensile stress, vacancy diffusion drives cavitation void nucleation and growth along grain boundaries perpendicular to the tensile axis, eventually leading to void coalescence and tertiary intergranular creep fracture.
