How It Works

The piezoelectric effect is a reversible electromechanical coupling phenomenon observed in non-centrosymmetric dielectric crystals. When mechanical compressive or tensile stress is applied, the internal ionic lattice displaces asymmetrically, creating electric dipole separation and producing macroscopic surface voltage (direct effect). Conversely, an applied electric field induces proportional mechanical strain (converse effect).
