How It Works

The glass transition marks the reversible kinetic transition in amorphous materials from a hard, rigid, glassy state into a viscous or rubbery state upon heating through the glass transition temperature (T_g). Unlike first-order crystallization transitions, the glass transition exhibits no latent heat, appearing as a continuous change in slope for specific volume and a step change in heat capacity described by the Williams-Landel-Ferry (WLF) equation.
