Molecular Self-Assembly (Liposome)

Nanotechnology

How It Works

Molecular self-assembly spontaneously organizes disordered molecules into defined supramolecular architectures without external intervention. In liposome formation, amphiphilic phospholipids with hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails minimize free energy in aqueous solution via the hydrophobic effect, clustering non-polar tails away from water into a spherical bilayer shell.

Governing Equation
Δ G_{assembly} = Δ H - T · Δ S < 0 , N_{agg} = (4π R^2) / a_0
