How It Works

Beta-minus (β⁻) radioactive decay is mediated by the weak nuclear force inside a neutron-rich nucleus. A down quark converts into an up quark via intermediate W⁻ vector boson exchange, transforming a bound neutron into a proton while emitting a relativistic beta electron and an electron antineutrino.
