Fabry-Pérot Optical Resonator

Optical Engineering

How It Works

A Fabry-Pérot resonator consists of two partially reflecting planar mirrors aligned parallel to one another. Multiple internal optical reflections interfere constructively when the round-trip phase shift is an exact integer multiple of 2π, producing sharp, periodic optical transmission resonance peaks characterized by high cavity finesse.

Governing Equation
I_t / I_i = 1 / (1 + F · sin^2(δ / 2)) , δ = (4π · n · L) / λ · cos(θ)
