How It Works

The TCP sliding window algorithm provides reliable, sequenced end-to-end data delivery and flow control across packet-switched computer networks. The sender maintains a dynamic transmission window W of bytes or packets permitted to be transmitted without awaiting acknowledgments. As cumulative acknowledgments (ACKs) return from the receiver, the left window edge slides forward, continuously maximizing channel utilization while avoiding receiver buffer overflow.
