An eye diagram is an oscilloscope measurement technique that superimposes synchronized repetitive sweeps of a multi-valued digital baseband signal across a two-symbol clock window. The degree of vertical eye opening indicates the noise margin against amplitude errors, while horizontal eye closure reveals timing jitter. Inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused by channel dispersion and bandwidth limitation visibly distorts and collapses the eye opening.
